Product Description

Shrunken Bison Leather

The defining character of this chukka comes from its shrunken bison leather. Naturally pronounced grain, irregular texture, and subtle variations across the hide give each pair an individual character. Bison leather is known for its substantial feel and pronounced grain, making it particularly well suited to rugged, everyday boots.

As the leather is worn, the grain develops greater depth and the surface begins to show the marks of use. Creasing, subtle colour variation, and areas of burnishing gradually become part of the boot's character rather than imperfections. With regular conditioning, the leather develops a richer, more personal appearance over time.

360° Handwelted Construction

The boot is built using traditional 360° handwelted construction, where the welt is hand-stitched around the entire perimeter of the shoe. This construction provides a strong connection between the upper, insole, welt, and outsole while allowing the boot to be resoled as it wears.

A properly handwelted boot also tends to become increasingly comfortable with use. The leather insole and internal layers gradually conform to the wearer's foot, creating a more individual fit over time.

Dr. Sole Outsole

The half Dr. Sole outsole adds a distinctly rugged foundation to the chukka. Known for its substantial construction and durable rubber compound, Dr. Sole provides dependable traction while complementing the heavy character of shrunken bison leather.

The half-sole configuration also preserves more of the boot's traditional silhouette while keeping the areas of highest contact protected and durable.

Why the Combination Works

Shrunken bison, handwelted construction, and Dr. Sole complement each other because each element brings a different quality to the boot. The bison provides texture and natural character, the handwelted construction provides structural integrity and long-term serviceability, while Dr. Sole adds durability and traction underfoot.

Together, they create a chukka that is designed not to remain pristine, but to develop character through wear.

Over time, the leather will record the way you wear it. The grain will become more pronounced, the surface will develop variations, and the sole will naturally show signs of use. With care and periodic conditioning, the result is a boot that becomes increasingly personal with age.

Shoe Care

Storage:
* Store shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
* Use dust bags or original boxes to protect from dust and light.

Rotation:
* Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row. Allow them to rest and air out between wears.
* Rotate your shoes to distribute wear evenly.

Proper Usage:
* Avoid wearing leather shoes in heavy rain or harsh conditions.
* Use a shoehorn to put on your shoes to prevent damaging the heel counter.

Conditioning:
* Condition the leather monthly to keep it supple.
* Apply a quality leather conditioner with a soft cloth, let it absorb, then buff off any excess.

Polishing:
* Use a matching or neutral shoe polish regularly to maintain color and shine.
* Apply polish with a soft cloth or applicator brush, let it dry, then buff to a shine with a horsehair brush or soft cloth.
